30
years spent in Operational and Projectmanagement
roles have provided a blend of skills and experience
to support a wide range of New Product and Process
Development Projects. Operational leadership roles
in the change management processes of leading
multinationals have further honed Mike's analytical
and business skills.
A full member of the APM Mike commenced his career
starting work with BDH Chemicals in Poole in Dorset
in 1972. Progressing to join the Radiochemical
Centre in Amersham Bucks in 1974, holding a series
of posts in R&D and Manufacturing Operations.
Appointed to the role of Project Manager for the,
now stock market floated, Amersham International
in 1982 he assumed responsibility for the scale
up of Diagnostic Reagent production.
Tasked by Amersham in 1985 with a role developing
new production systems to support the manufacture
of the company's new (non-radioactive) diagnostic
products, by 1989 Mike had graduated to the role
of Manufacturing Improvement Manager leading a
range of activity targeted at cost reduction and
improvement in operational effectiveness.
Joining Kodak Clinical Diagnostics in 1992 Mike
assumed a role in a multi-national project managed
across several sites in the USA and Europe with
particular responsibility for development of the
Vitros Immuno-Assay system consumable components.
Staying with the company through the transition
of ownership to Johnson & Johnson he continued
his support for the project by the establishment
of the Vitros Reagents manufacturing facility.
This facility, which utilised the best of lean
thinking and flat, self managed, structures was
capable of outputting over 50 million tests per
year at start-up.
Upon leaving J&J with the successful launch
of the product he joined Tyco Healthcare in 2001
to take up the role of European Projects Manager
responsible for the leadership of several manufacturing
capacity consolidation projects. These netted
savings of over $1.5 million in a two-year period.
Prior to leaving Tyco Mike initiated a longer
range project aimed at moving the manufacture
of more mature medical products to Tyco's Turkish
facilities, the resulting cost reductions enabling
their competitive life to be extended by several
years.
In 2003 Mike joined British Biocell International
as it was seeking to make its transition from
Speciality Bio-tech reagent manufacturer to supplier
of contract development and manufacturing services
for Rapid Test diagnostic products.
Quickly establishing manufacturing capability,
on a limited budget, to allow the production of
over 500,000 rapid tests per year and help to
support the listing of the company on the AIM
index in 2004.
Mikes latest challenge of establishing mike sherwood
associates commenced in July of 2005. |
